Okay, you know your purpose, you have relationship with God as your #1 priority, and you are beginning to move forward, but what in the world is going on?  You have met with resistance at every turn, people are throwing obstacles at you, you have never had so much turmoil in all your Christian life:  what happened?

Welcome to the purpose driven life!  Did you really think Satan was going to sit idly by and let you fulfill your God-given purpose?  John 10:10 says “The thief (Satan) does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.”  Satan’s mission is to take you to hell!  But if he can’t accomplish that, he plans to at least destroy your purpose, as well as, your relationship with God.  He hates God so he wants to take away God’s very heart’s desire which is to have relationship with you.  If he can get you to doubt God or  to doubt your purpose, half the battle is won.

He throws everything he can in your path to purpose.  He causes difficulties to arise, he causes people to stand against you, and he causes obstacles to rise up in your path hoping to derail you from your journey.  He hopes the tribulations will cause you to neglect your relationship with God.  Sometimes, we get so caught up on the journey we forget to consult the master planner.  We try to battle by ourselves!  We press on through with our own strengths and plans but we begin to find ourselves falling on the battlefield.  We get weary…we get focused on the defeats and soon we are wallowing in our own wounds and bruises.

We have forgotten the last part of John 10:10, “I (Jesus) have come that they may have life and have it more abundantly”.  We simply must keep our eyes on the Savior and allow Him to fight our battles.  We must stand with sword in hand but He – as our covenant partner, stands with us in every battle.  He doesn’t let us down.  He has already overcome the enemy!  The battle has already been won!  We must simply use our weapon (the Word) and speak to our enemy.  God continues to watch over His word to perform it.

Our job is to speak it: His job is to perform it!

John 16:33 says “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace.  In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”  We must remember that  Jesus, through the cross, has overcome the world!  He said ,” in the world you WILL have tribulation” not might but will.  But He says to be of good cheer (you say,”yeah right!) because He (Jesus) has overcome the world!  We should be shouting right now!

God never promised an easy life.  In fact, in many scripture He warns us that tribulation will come if we follow Him, but He has defeated the enemy.  In Isaiah 7, the Lord speaks to Isaiah and tells him that others have plotted evil against King Ahaz but verse 7 says “thus says the Lord God; It shall not stand, nor shall it come to pass”.  The message to you is that “the aggression of the enemy will not stand”.  God has been speaking that to our ministry (North Pointe)  for the past several weeks.

When you meet up against opposition, remember that message.  Satan has come to steal, kill and destroy…you!  But God says, “the aggression of the enemy will not stand!”  You will fulfill your purpose!  But don’t be ignorant of the enemies tactics: know he will come against you.  He doesn’t want you walking in victory, fulfilling your purpose.

But, God…!

If you know the end of the story, you won’t allow these tribulations to stop you, but rather they will propel you forward, knowing Jesus has overcome the enemy and has come to give us abundant life.

The journey may not be easy but it is fulfilling!  It may be bumpy but it will be the ride of your life.  Just hang on and see what the Lord has in store for you!

Purpose is the destination!  How’s your journey going?
