If someone has a problem and we have the answer but refuse to give it to them, are we held accountable?
What if your co-worker comes to you for advice and you give them your opinion but withhold the most important piece of information…isn’t that just like watching a drowning man but refusing to throw him the life-preserver?
If we give out advice, solutions to problems, and even educated information but fail to introduce them to the one who holds all the answers, are we going to stand in front of God and answer for that?
I have been pondering that very question for a few days now. Often, others come to me for a piece of advice on whatever difficulty they are facing at the moment. Have I always pointed them to the Word of God as the ultimate authority on all things? Or did I just quickly spat out my best advice on the given subject and fail to give them the important piece of the puzzle?
In my opinion, those who know the “Truth” and fail to share it with others are very arrogant! It is as if those with the answers think that others don’t deserve to know the “secret”. It is a restricted club! Only if you meet certain requirements will we share that information with you.
When someone asks for financial advice, we are doing them a disservice if we don’t explain finances from a Biblical standpoint, because no matter if one follows all of the given rules of financial security but fails to follow the Biblical principles on finances, they will never be successful in that area. We must share the principles of tithing, first-fruits, and offerings with them so they can have the whole financial plan!
When asked for marriage advice, and we fail to discuss Biblical viewpoints on the husband-wife relationship, we have failed to give them the key to a successful marriage. We have purposefully withheld the greatest piece of information regarding marriage and then we watch them fail! Are we responsible if we didn’t guide them to the Book that holds that information?
As a nurse, I am continuously asked about health issues! If I don’t point those people to the Book of Healing, will I answer for that?
Every issue we face is addressed in the Word of God and if we fail to share that “secret” we are being bad stewards of the gift God gave us! Many of us have become accustomed to being “Politically Correct”. We don’t discuss spiritual issues at work or with those we know are not believers. We watch what we say for fear of being labeled a fanatic! But when we stand in front of our Father God and He asks us why we didn’t give them the answers they needed, saying we didn’t want to offend them won’t cut it. I believe we are being offensive by refusing to give them the information they need to get free! When they are faced with eternity, do you believe they will say, “I’m, glad Laurie didn’t offend me with talk of a relationship with Jesus Christ?” Or do you think they will say, “Why didn’t Laurie tell me about Jesus? Did she not care”?
Giving life is what we are called to do! How do we do that? By introducing others to the “Life-Giver”! We are not responsible for the outcome. they can either accept it or toss it, their choice! But our responsibility has been met! When standing before God and He asks what did you do? And our response is “I introduced them to your Son, Jesus”. He will say “well done!”
If we toss the life-preserver to the drowning man, he has the opportunity to live! If he doesn’t want to grab hold of it, there is nothing we can do about it, but we have performed our duty – we offered life!
I don’t know of anyone who would stand on dry land and watch a man drown without offering help. I can’t fathom, standing there, watching him fight the water, sinking lower and lower, and not throwing the preserver! Neither can I fathom, watching someone battle life’s difficulties and refusing to throw the life-preserver – Jesus – to them! From now on, I will offer life whenever needed! No longer will I spout off “Laurie’s Good Advice” but the Word of God! Nothing else is effective!
I am now opening the restricted club of knowledge to everyone who is interested!
Ask me about the “rule book’!
